GPS Toolbox by SiggySoft Privacy Policy

For GPS Toolbox by SiggySoft on Android and iPhone, published by SiggySoft LLC. Effective 2026-11-02; replaces the version of 2026-10-28. What changed: the iPhone app can now send reports to SiggySoft, as the Android app does, and neither app opens your e-mail app for feedback any more.

Who we are

GPS Toolbox is made by SiggySoft LLC (www.siggysoft.org). Send privacy questions to contact@siggysoft.org.

What we collect

The app has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and it sends nothing in the background: never your location, your waypoints or your tracks. Information reaches SiggySoft only when you send it: a report you send with the app's Send to SiggySoft button, or an e-mail you write to us yourself (see the two sections near the end).

What the app uses on your phone, and why

  • Location (precise, while you use the app): to show speed, altitude, direction, coordinates and Sun and Moon times. When you record a track, the app keeps reading the GPS with the screen off and shows a notification until you stop recording.
  • Compass and barometer: to show heading and air pressure.
  • Motion sensors (the accelerometer, and the phone's own estimate of which way is down): to measure G-force while the G-force screen is open or a track records. While a track records, each point keeps the G-force reading of that moment and is saved with the track on your phone; otherwise the readings stay in the app's memory and are not saved.
  • Notifications (Android): for the notice shown while a track records.
  • Vibration (Android): for the speed alert.

These readings are used on the phone and are not sent anywhere; a report you send carries the phone's GPS capabilities and the accuracy of the current fix, never the position itself.

Where your data is kept, and for how long

Waypoints, recorded tracks (for each point: position, time, altitude, speed, direction, GPS accuracy, barometer and G-force readings) and settings are saved in the app's own storage on your phone. They stay until you delete them in the app or uninstall it; uninstalling the app deletes them. On iPhone, saved tracks are also visible in the Files app.

If your phone's own backup is turned on (Android backup to your Google account, or iCloud or computer backup on iPhone), that backup can include these files and restore them to a new phone. Those backups belong to your Google or Apple account. SiggySoft never receives them.

When information leaves your phone

Only when you choose: the Share and Export CSV buttons hand a location, a waypoint, a GPX file or a track spreadsheet to the app you pick (Messages, Mail and so on), and "Open in Maps" passes a location to a map app.

On iPhone, the map views use Apple Maps. Apple's MapKit downloads the map images for the area shown, under Apple's privacy policy.

When you send a report to SiggySoft

Send feedback and Phone diagnostics have a Send to SiggySoft button (on Phone diagnostics it is under Share). Nothing is sent until you tap it, and the screen first shows exactly what will be sent. The report goes over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to SiggySoft's feedback service at www.siggysoft.org. It contains what you typed, an e-mail address only if you give one (with your choice of whether SiggySoft may write to you), the app's version, the phone's maker and model (on iPhone, Apple's model identifier, such as iPhone16,2) and the Android or iOS version, and from Phone diagnostics what the phone reports about its GPS chip, satellites in view, location settings and sensors, including how accurate the current fix is.

It never contains your position, your waypoints or your tracks. The first time you send a report, the app registers with the service and receives a random identifier for this installation, which it uses to sign its reports; it is not linked to your name or your Google or Apple account. Like any website, the service also receives your internet (IP) address, and it keeps it with the report to limit misuse.

We use reports only to answer you and to fix and improve the app. Reports are kept on SiggySoft's own server and are not sold or shared. To have a report deleted, e-mail contact@siggysoft.org with its ticket number (the app shows it after sending).

When you e-mail us

If you e-mail contact@siggysoft.org yourself, we receive your e-mail address, your message and whatever you attach. We use them only to answer you and to fix or improve the app, keep them in our mailbox only as long as that takes, and delete them sooner if you ask.

How the data is protected

Android and iOS keep each app's storage private from other apps. GPS Toolbox uses the internet only to send a report you chose to send, so no copy of your location, waypoints or tracks exists on any SiggySoft server. Reports travel over HTTPS, are signed so they cannot be changed on the way, and are kept on SiggySoft's server outside its public web pages, readable only by SiggySoft staff. Android encrypts its cloud backups end to end on Android 9 and newer. Email you send us is kept in SiggySoft's Microsoft 365 business mailbox and is not shared with anyone else.

Children

The app collects nothing in the background from anyone, including children. A report is sent only when its user taps Send.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date. Questions: contact@siggysoft.org.
