GPS Toolbox by SiggySoft
A GPS app for Android and iPhone, made by SiggySoft LLC
What it does
GPS Toolbox turns the GPS receiver and sensors already in your phone into a set of instruments: a speedometer, a G-force meter, compass, altimeter, coordinates in eight formats, waypoints, a track recorder that keeps altitude, and Sun and Moon times. It has no ads, needs no account and never sends your location.
Speed, heading and altitude
A speedometer that rescales as you go faster, a speed alert, true or magnetic north, height above sea level, climb rate and barometer altitude on phones that have one.
Tracks and waypoints
Record a drive or a hike with the screen off, replay it on the map at real time or faster, mark the places that matter, and save GPX files that open in Google Earth, Gaia GPS or CalTopo.
Private by design
Your location stays on your phone and is never sent anywhere. The app uses the internet only when you tap Send on feedback or phone diagnostics, after a screen that shows every word, and those reports never include your position.
Get the app
- Android 8.0 or newer: download below
- Google Play: coming soon
- iPhone: App Store coming soon
- No account, no ads, no tracking
Installing the Android download
Until the app is on Google Play, Android asks you to allow the install once.
- Open this page on the phone in Chrome and tap Download for Android.
- When the download finishes, tap Open, or find GPS-Toolbox-1.3.0.apk in the Files app under Downloads.
- If Android says the phone is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source, tap Settings, turn on Allow from this source, then go back.
- Tap Install.
- Open GPS Toolbox, tap Allow location, and choose Precise and While using the app.
If Google Play Protect says it does not recognize the app, tap More details, then Install anyway. Letting it scan the app first is fine. A newer version installs over the old one and keeps your waypoints, tracks and settings; uninstalling the app deletes them.
What it shows
| Screen | What it does |
|---|---|
| Dashboard | Position, speed, heading, altitude, accuracy, trip distance, climb rate, the next sunrise or sunset and GPS time on one screen. |
| Speed | A speedometer that rescales as you go faster, with maximum and average speed, moving and stopped time, a 10-minute speed chart, a speed alert, and a full-screen mode for reading off a windshield at night, mirrored the right way whether the phone lies with its top toward you or toward the glass. |
| G-force | The total G-force you feel, a cornering and braking circle with a 3-second trail, the hardest acceleration, braking and turns, and a check against GPS speed. Set level once the phone is in its mount, and the readings follow the car instead of the phone. |
| Phone diagnostics | In Settings: what the phone's GPS chip reports (model, raw measurements, dual-frequency L5 signals), the satellite systems in view, location settings and sensors, with notes on what they mean for accuracy. Tap any line for a plain explanation, such as what GLONASS, Galileo or BeiDou are. When the GPS misbehaves, Share sends it to SiggySoft, after a screen that shows everything the report holds. |
| Compass | True or magnetic north with the local declination, your GPS course, where the Sun and Moon are, and an arrow to a saved waypoint with the distance left. |
| Altitude | Height above sea level and above the GPS ellipsoid, vertical accuracy, barometer altitude, climb rate, total climb and descent, and a 30-minute altitude chart. Tap any line for what it means, including how the barometer works out your height and how to set it from GPS or an airport weather report. |
| Position | Decimal degrees, degrees-minutes-seconds, degrees and decimal minutes, UTM, MGRS, plus code, Maidenhead grid and geohash, each with a copy button. |
| Waypoints | Save where you are standing or type in coordinates someone sent you; see the distance and direction to each; export them as a GPX file. |
| Track | Records your path with the screen off. Every point keeps its time, position, altitude, speed, direction, GPS accuracy, barometer reading and G-force. Shows distance, moving and stopped time, climb, the highest and lowest points, an elevation profile and the area inside a loop; Show all figures adds the hardest braking and turns, accuracy and more. Drag the map, keep it centered on you, and replay any track at real time or up to 120 times faster. Export every reading as a CSV spreadsheet. |
| Sun and Moon | Sunrise, sunset, the three kinds of twilight, golden and blue hour, Moon phase, moonrise and moonset, and the next full and new moon, for any day. Tap any line for what it means and where the name comes from, such as why nautical dawn is named after sailors. |
| Satellites (Android) | A sky plot of every satellite the phone hears (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS, NavIC), their signal strength, and which ones are used in the fix. |
| GNSS Info (Android) | The phone's GPS chip, update rate, time to first fix, how far the phone clock is from GPS time, and the raw NMEA sentences. |
Every line on the GNSS Info, Satellites, Phone diagnostics, Altitude, Sun and Moon and G-force screens opens a plain explanation when you tap it.
On iPhone the same tools sit behind five tabs (Dashboard, Speed, Compass, Track, More), tracks and waypoints appear on Apple Maps, and iPhone 12 and later add Apple's own altitude estimate. iPhones give apps no satellite data, so the Satellites and NMEA screens are Android only.
Tips
- Indoors, a phone often gets no GPS fix at all. Step outside; on Android the Satellites screen shows how many satellites the phone hears while it waits.
- While a track records, a notification stays up with a Stop and save button, so you can lock the phone.
- The Android app draws your track to scale without a street map, so it works with no signal. Share the GPX file to a mapping app to see it over streets.
- Settings has units (miles, kilometres or nautical), the coordinate format, the speed alert, and a Night red theme that keeps your eyes adjusted to the dark.
Privacy
GPS Toolbox uses your location, compass, barometer and motion sensors on the phone and sends nothing to SiggySoft unless you tap Send on a report; waypoints and tracks stay on the phone until you share them. The privacy policy covers both versions in full.
Version history
What each version added, newest first. The app shows the same list (Android: Settings > Version history).
Version 1.3.0 · 2026-11-02
- Altitude tab: tap any line for what it means, such as height above sea level, the ellipsoid and geoid separation. The Barometer card explains how air pressure gives your height, and a new line explains Use GPS, Set QNH and Standard.
- Settings: the Speed alert and Barometer and trip cards explain what they are for. Reset barometer is greyed out while the sea-level pressure is already standard.
- Phone diagnostics: Share now offers Send to SiggySoft as well as other apps. Send feedback goes straight to SiggySoft after you check every word; the e-mail option is gone.
- G-force: the live readings stay on one line, so the screen no longer jumps between speeding up and braking.
- The full name, GPS Toolbox by SiggySoft, now shows at the top of the app.
Version 1.2.1 · 2026-10-28
- The app is now called GPS Toolbox by SiggySoft in the app stores and in your phone's app settings. The name under the icon stays GPS Toolbox, so it fits on the home screen.
Version 1.2.0 · 2026-10-28
- Track map: drag to move it and pinch to zoom. One button centers the map on you and follows you as you move; another shows the whole track again.
- Replay: play a saved track or your last recording back on the map, at real time or up to 120 times faster, with the time of day, distance, speed, altitude and G-force at each moment. Drag the slider to jump to any part of the trip.
- Moving time and stopped time on the Track screen, worked out the same way as the trip computer on the Speed screen.
- Each track point now keeps your direction, GPS accuracy, satellites used, barometer altitude and G-force. Show all figures lists everything a track holds (hardest braking, hardest turns, accuracy and more), and Export CSV gives a spreadsheet with one row per point.
Version 1.1.0 · 2026-10-27
- G-force tab: the total G-force you feel, a cornering and braking circle with a 3-second trail, peaks, and a check against GPS speed. Set level and the front of the car once the phone is in its mount.
- Tap any line on GNSS Info, Satellites, Sun & Moon and G-force for a plain explanation, such as what nautical dawn or solar noon means and where the name comes from.
Version 1.0.5 · 2026-10-26
- After an update, the app shows what changed in the new version the first time you open it, with a button for the full version history.
Version 1.0.4 · 2026-10-26
- Version history: Settings and the GNSS Info tab now list what each version added.
- Send to SiggySoft opens a review screen with everything that will be sent. Nothing leaves the phone until you tap Send there.
- Phone diagnostics: tap any line for a plain explanation, including what each satellite system is (the US GPS, Russia's GLONASS, Europe's Galileo, China's BeiDou and the regional ones).
Version 1.0.3 · 2026-10-24
- Phone diagnostics in Settings: the GPS chip, the satellite systems in view, dual-frequency (L5) signals, location settings and sensors, with notes on accuracy.
- The HUD mirror works whichever way the phone lies on the dashboard: off, top toward you, or top toward the windshield, and remembers your choice.
- Send to SiggySoft: send feedback or the phone diagnostics to SiggySoft. Your position is never included.
Version 1.0.2 · 2026-10-23
- Send feedback: writes an e-mail to SiggySoft, with the app version and phone model if you choose.
Version 1.0.1 · 2026-10-22
- Built for Android 16, as Google Play requires.
- The privacy policy and SiggySoft's contact address are linked inside the app.
- The permission screen explains that a track keeps recording with the screen off.
Version 1.0.0 · 2026-10-16
- First version: a speedometer with a speed alert, trip figures and a windshield HUD; a compass; an altimeter with climb and descent totals; a satellite sky view; coordinates in eight formats; waypoints; a track recorder that keeps altitude and saves GPX files; and Sun and Moon times.
Support and feedback
In the app, open Settings and tap Send feedback to report a problem or suggest an idea. The app shows the whole message, sends it to SiggySoft when you tap Send, and gives you a ticket number. Or email contact@siggysoft.org with your phone model, the app version (shown in the app's About section), what you did, and what you expected to see.
